Entertainment Weekly reported Monday that Comedy Central has canceled "Futurama," though it will air the remaining thirteen episodes this summer, on Wednesday nights from June 19 until September 4.
Fans of the futuristic cartoon will recall that the series was originally broadcast on FOX, until the network canceled it in 2003 after four seasons. High ratings in syndication led to the release of four direct-to-DVD movies, essentially creating sixteen episodes to run as a fifth season. In 2010, Comedy Central formally began airing a sixth season of the Matt Groening (The Simpsons) series.
When the final episode airs, the animated comedy will have amassed 140 installments, at least five Emmy Awards, several Comic-Con appearances, and a multitude of merchandise, including a comic books series that has been published since November 2000. At this time there are no reports that the comic book will cease to print new editions when the television series ends.
Throughout the years, "Futurama" has had many memorable moments. Check out a few top events in the following list.
