People don't have to go to New York to find great authors. There is a very talented community of writers in the Spokane area. Several of them have had their books published by Gray Dog Press.
Gray Dog Press is an independent publisher based in Spokane that has provided a home for many talented writers from the Northwest. They mostly publish nonfiction books such as "Not One Drop of Blood: The Human Side of Prison Versus Probation" by John Heffernan or "Tobacco Root Trail Guide" by Teresa Hammel. They have also published a diverse range of fiction from many different genres.
Gray Dog Press publishes everything from books on Spokane's history, to urban fantasy, to Dawn Nelson's incredibly popular western romance novels, to the crime fiction of Frank Zafiro. They are also home to local author T. Dawn Richard's May List mystery series. There is something for practically every reader in their catalog.
According to their website, "... because we are a small press we are able to devote lots of attention and energy to each book that goes out. We love seeing submissions from all over, but do have a bit of a soft spot for Northwest writers and subject matter. Can you blame us? This place is incredible."
