The Seattle Seahawks have a 3-0 record in the 2013 preseason and they've done that with a huge offensive output of more than 30 points a game. Their tough defense has put them in a good position to engage the opposing defenses after good field position has been established.
Russell Wilson will be starting quarterback in 2013
Russell Wilson is a Richmond, Virginia native. He attended high school at Collegiate School which, incidentally, was where my brother taught while Wilson was a student there.
Last year's big story in Seattle was Russell Wilson who performed very well as a rookie quarterback: he came in and took the starting job away from veteran Matt Flynn who had landed in Seattle from Green Bay with a huge contract that most people thought would have landed him the starting job. But Wilson was athletic and showed enthusiasm that helped him improve throughout the season: the Seahawks rookie quarterback improved throughout the season and led Seattle to an 11-5 record and a wildcard playoff berth. He had a quarterback rating of 100.0 (26 touchdowns and 10 interceptions) last year and ran for 489 yards.
In 2013 Seattle signed Brady Quinn and Tarvaris Jackson to backup Wilson at quarterback. Tarvaris Jackson appears to be the likely number two quarterback since he played for Seattle in 2011. He's similar to Wilson in that he's mobile and can escape the pocket when necessary to salvage positive yardage from tough defensive pass coverage. Also, he was starting quarterback for Seattle in 2011 so he's familiar with their offensive scheme. He has a career quarterback rating of 77.7.
Brady Quinn hasn't been known as a runner since he was drafted by the Cleveland Browns in 2007 out of Notre Dame. His strength as a quarterback--he's 6'3" 233 pounds--comes from his pure size and ability to stand tough in the passing pocket. At Cleveland, however, he didn't win many games so that quality is dubious. His career completion percentage is 53.8%. His career quarterback rating is 64.4.
Those are the three quarterbacks that Seattle will likely retain on the regular season roster in 2013...check out their photos.
