Week 5 of the NFL season gets into full gear on Oct. 6, kicking off the second month of the campaign. Truthfully, the NFL couldn’t have a better kick off for October, as Week 5 has multiple showdowns between big names, early frontrunners and upstart sleepers. It is hard to choose a game of the week from this lineup, but the narrow winner has to be the Seattle Seahawks’ visit to the Indianapolis Colts.
The Seahawks passed a big road test by overcoming a horrific start against the Houston Texans on Sept. 29. A week later, Seattle is now visiting Houston’s biggest challenger in the AFC South. What’s more, the Colts already slew a big NFC West giant in the San Francisco 49ers on the road, and now get a chance to take down the Seahawks at home.
A 4-1 mark with two wins over NFC frontrunners will build the Colts’ resume for an AFC run, or at least the AFC South title. On the flip side, a 5-0 start for Seattle, including two wins over AFC contenders and a blowout of San Francisco, will further cement its status as the early NFC leader.
Many other NFC and AFC leaders are facing stiff challenges in Week 5, as they try to build an early cushion or start digging out of their September holes. Here is a full list of the best and worst games ahead, although even the middle of the pack games would be pretty high on other weeks.
