There is nothing more terrifying to people than hearing an explosion followed by feeling like you can’t breath, but your lungs are still inhaling and exhaling, toxic air is entering your body from which there is no escape. If you are lucky, you will die more quickly from the concussion and shock.
For most people exposed to poison gas, victims will be aware at once that something bad is in the air. They will consume it and soon their bodies will lose control as their central nervous system is overwhelmed. Their bodies will shake and convulse. their eyes will roll, their skin may blister, and inside they will feel unbearable pain as the poison hits their vital organs, damaging them beyond repair. Suffering pain is all that they have to experience until the end of their lives.
Death by chemical poisoning is terrible. So is death by shrapnel, death by bullets, and death by concussion.
Seeing writhing human beings in anguish is a way to bring the experience of war to the forefront. However, how to end the war isn’t so clearly understood.
Here is a list of what it appears a war with Syria advocates have in mind.
1. Bomb the Syrian government ammunition and war supply depots
Doing that reduces the government’s military capability to even the war with rebels or to give to the rebels advantage without arming the rebels.
2. Bomb the Syrian government air defenses, and air force assets in attempt to establish a no-fly zone and no airpower capability.
3. Attempt to isolate chemical weapons supplies where possible by bombing around them, including those who are accessing and using them.
That is the most difficult part because bombs can strike the chemical weapons creating a larger disaster. Eliminating those who are protecting the chemical weapons leave them vulnerable to hostile forces that want access to them.
We all know and believe that the civil war in Syria is ugly. We all know and believe that hostile forces reside in the Middle East that do not observe international agreements to eliminate and to outlaw use of chemical and biological weapons. Short of world war, what can be done about it?
"Senate Intelligence panel posts videos of sarin gas victims
By Jeremy Herb
The Senate Intelligence Committee has released to the public 13 videos showing victims of last month's alleged chemical attacks in Syria.
The videos detail what appears to be victims of the chemical attacks convulsing and foaming at the mouth. It includes graphic images of children who were apparently victims of the attack, which the U.S. says was carried out by the regime of Syrian President Bashar Assad and left 1,400 dead.
They also show the dead bodies of adults, children and the elderly lying side by side on the floor. The victims have no signs of blood or other wounds.
The release of the videos appears to be part of a major effort by the Obama administration and those in Congress who back a strike to convince the public of the need for a military response.
