Week 6 of the NFL season has few marquee games on Oct. 13. There were no shortage of showdowns on Oct. 6, yet it has balanced out in the other direction a week later. Even the big game of the day between the New Orleans Saints and New England Patriots could have been bigger, yet the Patriots lost and dropped to 4-1 before facing the 5-0 Saints.
The Patriots have been lucky to get to 4-1, but their luck finally ran out against the Cincinnati Bengals. As such, it isn’t a good time for them to host the Saints, who are starting to look like the champions of old again. However, a statement win in New England would really legitimize New Orleans, regardless of the Patriots’ troubles.
Not long ago, a Saints-Patriots game would have been expected to be a shootout, if not a 51-48 shoot ‘em up like the Denver Broncos and Dallas Cowboys had last week. But with the Patriots still struggling to give Tom Brady weapons, and with Rob Gronkowski still on the mend, they will need to go above and beyond to match Drew Brees.
