The Downey Rose Float Association visited an English fairy garden with “Dew Drop By,” while the City of Alhambra, Calif. took2013 Rose Parade viewers to Granada, Spain. Whether through daydreams in a backyard hammock or via Radiator Springs, Rose Parade floats can transport parade watchers to places they might never see in person.
The list attached to this article takes a look at five of the floats that didn’t win trophies but did a marvelous job of presenting their themes. Floats that won awards in the 2013 Rose Parade can be viewed by following links in “2013 Rose Parade floats: Award-winners, articles, and photos.”
The floats come from a cross-section of builders: Downey is self-built, Artistic Entertainment Services (AES) built Disneyland Resorts “Cars Land,” Fiesta Parade Floats got Torrance’s “Follow Your Dreams” rolling down the parade route, and Phoenix Decorating Company built Western Asset’s “A World United” and Alhambra’s “Going to Granada.”
Your Tournament of Roses Examiner broke the story that Disneyland would enter a float, based on a tip from micechat.com, in the article “Cars Land to be featured on Disneyland Resort 2013 Rose Parade float” last October, which featured an interview with Craig Bugajski, owner of AES.
The theme of the 124th Rose Parade and 99th Rose Bowl Game was “Oh, the Places You’ll Go!” The 125th Rose Parade and 100th Rose Bowl Game will take place on Wednesday, Jan. 1, 2014. The Tournament of Roses is a celebration that lasts several weeks in the fall and winter.
