Richland County Dog Shelter sending out an urgent plea

Romeo  Romeo is a male Terrier mix. Romeo is handsome, and since he is already neutered, he can go to his new home today. He should, however, be the only dog in the home. Oh, and his name… he wasn’t named “Romeo” for nothing!  He is one friendly cuddlebug.Benedict Benedict is a senior male German Shepherd dog.  This older gentleman doesn’t require much, just some love and a soft place to lay his head.  He is one dog who will give you all the unconditional love his heart has to offer.  Please don’t let the shelter be the last place he knows.  Benedict has been at the shelter since July 2012 so his days may be numbered.Leo This cute Beagle/Hound mix has been at the shelter since July! Leo was left in one of the drop-off cages at the shelter.  He is a staff favorite because he is so sweet and gentle and such a good boy.  Leo is housebroken and needs a new home asap!View the list »
ChiefThis is heartbreaking! Chief, a young Labrador Retriever/Shar Pei mix has been at the shelter since April 17, 2012.  He shouldn’t have to grow up in a shelter.  The shelter gave him what was probably his first toy.  Now he loves them!  Adopt him and he’ll show you the tricks he’s learned.  Chief can shake with both his paws and he’ll keep doing it as long as you want him to. Please give this handsome fellow a chance.

The Richland County Dog Shelter is sending out an urgent plea. Although they have not had to euthanize a dog in over a year due to lack of space, right now the shelter is critically full. The shelter has nice adoptable dogs of all sizes available, however the large-sized dogs are especially urgent. Click on "View the List" to see some of the dogs that urgently need adopted or rescued.   • Reba Reba is a sweet, very friendly dog who would make a great companion.  She is a cute Labrador Retriever.  Reba is young and happy, but it was obvious that she’s already had puppies of her own before she came to the shelter as a stray on Aug. 22, 2012.  If you are looking to adopt a Labrador Retriever, please inquire about Reba.
  • Bowie Male black Labrador Retriever Bowie is quite the rock star!  He acted tough when he first arrived at the shelter, but that was only because he was scared.  Now he has warmed up to the volunteers, and is a lovable comic: He likes to roll around on his back and show you his belly.  He loves going for walks.  Bowie should be the only dog in the home.
  • Moose Handsome Moose may have been abused in the past.  This gentle soul came in as a stray in Aug., 2012.  According to the shelter, once you touch his face, he leans heavily into your hand. Moose doesn’t ask for much, just a little love, which he didn’t get before.  Please help Moose find his forever home.
  • Elvis Elvis came in as a terrified, skinny stray on Sept. 8, 2012.  Who knows what stories he could tell.  But it didn’t take long for this three-year-old male Treeing Walker Coonhound to warm up to people. Elvis needs a loving home.
  • Neptune Handsome male Retriever Neptune promises to be the life of the party!  He would do best in a home as an only dog.  But he has so much personality, one dog might be all you would need with this happy boy.  Neptune has a lot of energy and enjoys going for walks.
  • Moonlight  Moonlight is an adorable young pocket pittie, just 30 pounds with a lovely dark brindle coat. She knows several commands and appears potty trained.  Please adopt or rescue this little cute pup. 
  • Raven Raven is a friendly, affectionate Rottweiler.  She came to the shelter as a stray on 10/10/12.  From the look of her when she arrived, she’s had puppies in her past.  Help give this girl a new life and a good home.
  • Howl Howl is a male husky, around two years old.  He sure is handsome, and is a nice, friendly boy who will make a great addition to any family.  Click on his name for more information on Howl.
