Since former Senator Jim DeMint brought his Heritage tour to defund Obamacare to Nashville, Tennessee Citizen Action and its allies responded with a Tennessee for All Town Hall on Thursday evening August 22. There were about 100 attendees at the Nashville United Autoworkers' headquarters to promote the Affordable Care Act and share strategies to help Tennesseans learn what the law really is and how it will help them. (Former Senator DeMint apparently insists on referring to the Act as a 'bill', unwilling to admit it is the law of the land.) We also heard from some local leaders who are working on other related problems.
When I went through my pictures, I discovered I had not gotten one of speaker Michelle Johnson, Executive Director of the Tennessee Justice Center. She asked which Tennessee citizens former Senator DeMint expects to 'rise up' to his call. Is it the people who will no longer have company-imposed 'lifetime limits' on their policies? Is it the young adults who can stay on their parents' insurance until they are 26? Is it the people already getting federally-mandated rebates because their company did not spend 80% of their premium on their healthcare? Is it those who now get preventive care FREE? Only those who are badly misinformed will 'rise up' against this law.
