Rejoice and be glad, because great is your reward in heaven, for in the same way they persecuted the prophets who were before you. (Matthew 5:12)
Rejoice means having joy. Joy is a fruit of the Holy Spirit. It signifies an emotion of elation. Jesus is speaking in this verse. He is telling believers to have this joy within them. This joy is despite what others are doing and saying. In fact, the reason for rejoicing is that a reward awaits believers. Persecution and mistreatment qualifies children of the Most High God for a reward in heaven.
You may find this hard at times because others treat you wrongly. There is solace in knowing that other men and women of God have received persecution. Prayer and meditating on God’s word are ways to stay strong. Remember the joy of the Lord is your strength!
Child of God, continue to serve the Lord Jesus! Be joyous in your heart! Sing, dance, and praise Him! He will reward you! Heaven is your home!
