Are you looking for a intimate, tasty, reasonably priced place to take a friend for lunch? I've been going to Mt. Washington's Desert Cafe' for years . . . when it first opened, I used to make a habit of taking the bus from downtown to there for my birthday. My birthday happens to be when all of the Fall fashion magazines come out; I used to sit out on their patio for hours, enjoying their black bean soup or one of the chicken salads.
That's a whole 'nother debate altogether! Which of their chicken salads to order? They have several, two of which have their merits: one is mango-curry and the other is tarragon.
If you are using a Groupon -- like I did -- you're supposed to make reservations.
Desert Cafe' has been on the Food Network and other shows for their famous hummus that they now create under the label "Wild Pea". The hummus hit the specialty food radar for some off the wall flavors, like sweet dessert hummus flavors, such as pumpkin pie. I personally love their traditional flavor and have been known to get in a fight with people who eat more than their sharing share. Such events may or may not have occurred this afternoon.
