Holiday time is one that many savor with seasonal foods. When it comes to beverages, nothing screams holiday cheer more than eggnog.

Growing up, drinking eggnog wasn’t a big thing for me but for my older brother, it was something that made the holiday complete.
Over time, I acquired the taste of eggnog, but noted that it is certainly something that I couldn’t indulge in year round because of the high fat content. Thankfully, it is only sold during the holidays.
Earlier this year, I decided to try a vegan diet. I was basically sick and tired of being sick and tired (meaning I was tired of having Type 2 diabetes, high blood pressure, high cholesterol, high everything else – including weight).
This was certainly going to be a challenge since part of my job is to write about food and wine. I worked closely with doctors on how to make “this vegan thing” work for me. I had to be a strict vegan at home and when I worked I had to use common sense in tasting non-vegan foods. It worked and I got rid of the laundry list of health issues, which made me and my doctors very happy.
I love food – really, I do. I certainly did not want my new diet to destroy my love of fine cuisine.
It didn’t. In fact, I found that my new diet afforded me the ability to try foods that I never considered in the past. My culinary world opened up and with it came the need to share some of the great tastes that are out there.
When I write about vegan foods they are things that I would have my non-vegan, carnivore friends try. With that, here is a sampling of some of the eggless “egg” nog that is available on the market. Click on the More Photos to see the list.
