The DC Universe has broken bad after the "Trinity War" brought about the Crime Syndicate. As a result, the world believes that the Justice League is dead and that a reign of 'Forever Evil' has begun. For the month of September, each title will feature a different villain of the DCU.
The Superman tie-ins of Cyborg Superman and Bizarro were okay but we haven't seen those characters integrate into the main story yet. Even some stories that weren't exactly amazing still made for some ominous foreshadowing. Darkseid's story in Justice League #23.1, in particular, will spin off into both Earth 2 (with DeSaad already on board) and Batman/Superman.
As one would expect from the Batman Examiner, the Caped Crusader's rogues gallery are named highlights in the top five books of "Forever Evil" week one. Though four of the five are Dark Knight-related, the least successful book is as well. Joker #1/Batman #23.1 was a huge disappointment but the stories of Two-Face, Deadshot, Poison Ivy, and the new Ventriloquist met or exceeded expectations. The top book, though, was the title series. Forever Evil #1 set the stage for something bigger (and hopefully better) than what we just saw from "Trinity War".
