The MLB playoffs are technically starting on Oct. 1, although the first play-in game was on Sept. 30 in Texas. But after the Tampa Bay Rays beat the Texas Rangers to reach the AL wild card game, baseball finally has just 10 teams left for the month of October.
The AL’s second play-in game before the divisional series is on Oct. 2, when the Rays play their next elimination road game against the Cleveland Indians. As for the NL, it had its wild-card matchup set days ago, with the Pittsburgh Pirates ready to host their first playoff game in 21 years against the Cincinnati Reds.
After the Pirates and Reds square off, the postseason will be under way and will have already lost one team. But before baseball goes down to its elite eight, here is a list of the 10 playoff teams and how they rank in order, with the worst to best chances to be the last club standing.
