The Super Bowl is this weekend, and everyone seems to have football on their mind. Many will be hosting a Super Bowl party for their family and friends to watch the big game. A long list of appetizers and drinks might be on the menu, but how about a quick and easy dessert loved but young and old alike. Here is how you can make quick and easy football pops
How to Make Football Pops
To make quick and easy football pops, you will need a box of Rice Krispie treats, a bag of Wilton chocolate candy melts or other chocolate, white chocolate chips, and Popsicle sticks.
Forming the Football Shape
To make a football shape, either use an oval shaped cookie cutter, or cut the corners off of each treat with a knife. You may need to use your hands to get the shape just right.
Coating the Football Treat
Any type of chocolate can be used to coat the football treats, but the Wilton Light Cocoa Candy Melts seems to be closest to the color of a real football. You can melt the candy melts in a glass bowl in the microwave using the 30 second method. Melt for 30 seconds, stir and then melt for 30 seconds more. You should not take more than a minute or so to be melted all the way through
Adding the Chocolate
It is best to placed some melted chocolate on the bottom of the football, before you insert the pop stick. Once the chocolate hardens around the stick, it will be more secure. Either dip your pops into the melted chocolate, or use a knife and spread it on like in the picture. If using a knife allow one side to harden, before coating the other side.
Adding the Details
Place about a half cup of white chocolate chips in a plastic baggie that seals and microwave it for about seconds. Take it out of the microwave and knead the chocolate to make sure it is melted all the way through. Be careful, it will be hot! Snip a small diagonal cut on one of the corners to make a small hole. Carefully pipe the white chocolate lines on the football pops
The Finished Pops
Once the chocolate has cooled and hardened your football pops are done. Place them out at your Super Bowl party and watch them disappear.
