Most people know those members of the GLBT community which are musical, or pseudo-political advocates. Individuals like Madonna, Lady Gaga and Elton John are a few of those who consistently speak on behalf of queer people all over the world, and they raise money to support lawmakers, charities and groups whose purpose is to spread equality, knowledge, love and respect in different arenas of every day life. But as mentioned before, simply being openly queer in the public eye is a huge form of activism.
Those individuals in music, sports, film, and public office whose faces and personas become bigger than life, making others feel as if they know them, have a huge platform on which to present normalcy, honesty, and individuality.

Most of those openly queer individuals, in this case who are in the music industry, tend to be soloists: Boy George, Ani DiFranco, Ricky Martin, Frank Ocean, Mary Lambert, Zebra Katz, to name a few. Yet there are queer people everywhere! Of course most of us know that already, but in case some need a reminder here is a short compiled list of big, medium and small bands whose members are openly queer and making being a rockstar that much more empowering.
