Sony revealed its Instant Game Collection for the month of May on Thursday. PS Plus subscribers that own a Playstation 4, Playstation 3 or PS Vita have a small collection of titles to look forward to downloading for free next month as part of their subscription.
A PS Plus subscription is required to download free games as part of the Instant Game Collection. Retailers like Amazon, Best Buy and GameStop sell subscriptions for $49.99 for a year or $17.99 for three months.
The PS3 gets the largest number of free titles this month led by the critically acclaimed, but not so great selling, “Puppeteer”. Developed by SCE Japan Studio, this side-scrolling platformer was hailed for its unique art style. The story follows a boy named Kutaro who is kidnapped, turned into a puppet and then has his head cut off. However, he discovers that he has the ability to put on new heads that each come with a unique ability to help him solve the environmental puzzles.
“PES 2014” will also be free for the PS3 and is the latest in the long-running soccer franchise from Konami. This latest version uses the Fox Engine that powers the upcoming “Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain”.
The third game this month for the PS3 is “Skullgirls Encore”. This 2D fighting game takes a slightly demented twist by featuring only pixie-sized girls with unique powers. The hand-drawn art style and animation was heavily praised by reviewers when it was originally released in April 2012.
The PS Vita receives the second largest number of games for the month of May starting with “Surge Deluxe”. This is yet another title in the block-matching puzzle game category.
The other free title for the PS Vita is the highly acclaimed “Limbo” from Playdead Games. This puzzle-platformer puts players through a minimalist environment with the player completely in shadows in the foreground with a more brightly lit background.
Stick it to the Man
Finally, the PS4 receives the indie title “Stick it to the Man” from Zoink!. The game is set in a flat paper-like world where the main character, Ray, is a hard hat tester. One day, an accident results in a pink neon hand growing out of his skull. This allows him to not only read the minds of those around him but helps him solve platforming puzzles as well.
