TRH Prince Felix and Princess Claire of Luxembourg celebrated their religious wedding ceremony on Saturday, September 21, following their civil ceremony earlier in the week. The couple exchanged vows in the Basilica of Saint Mary Magdalene Saint-Maximin-la- Sainte-Baume in France, following the tradition of marrying in the bride’s home. It was after the civil ceremony that Claire took on her husband’s titles including Princess of Luxembourg, she was formally known as Miss Claire Lademacher. The couple has been dating a number of years and their engagement was widely expected after the wedding of Prince Felix’s older brother Guillaume.
There were plenty of royal guests arriving in the 45 minutes before the ceremony officially started. Due to Prince Felix’s position in the line of succession and the relative size of Luxembourg, many royal families did not send official representation. The wedding had much more of a personal feel with attendance by members of royal families who are personal friends of Felix’s. A great example was the Belgian royal family who sent HRH Prince Laurent, but also Felix’s peers TI&RH Prince Amedeo, Princess Maria-Laura, and Prince Joachim. In a bit of a surprise, Pierre Casiraghi attended on behalf of the Monaco Princely family and was accompanied by his girlfriend Beatrice Borromeo. The Luxembourg extended family was also in attendance, notably the Hapsburg cousins. Archduchess Marie-Christine, Archduke Imre, and Archduke Christoph attended with their spouses and Archduke Alexander accompanied his sister Archduchess Gabriella.
As the ceremony drew ever closer, the Luxembourg royal family finally arrived. TRH Prince Louis, Princess Tessy, Prince Sebastian, and Princess Alexandra were all beaming with joy. Prince Sebastian and Princess Alexandra were dressed in the blue wedding colors as part of the wedding party. TRH Hereditary Grand Duke Guillaume and Hereditary Grand Duchess Stephanie arrived and looked like they were filled with pride as they entered the church. Grand Duke Henri accompanied the mother of the bride into the church to see their children marry. Finally, HRH Prince Felix arrived with HRH Grand Duchess Maria Teresa and was grinning from ear to ear, eager to marry his longtime girlfriend.
At 11:00 am on the dot, HRH Princess Claire arrived in a Rolls Royce with her father. She wore a wedding dress by Elie Saab, the favorite designer of the Grand Ducal women. At the altar, the couple exchanged touching vows in the Catholic ceremony. Following the wedding the Prince and Princess emerged triumphant raising their arms in the air to cheers from the gathered crowds.
