This past week on the music awards show an artist received a good deal of attention. Her dances moves known as twerking were the talk of many online news articles and other media sources. The twerking dance moves are being talked about all over the social media sites like Facebook. The moves can be quite offensive and may not be the best to do in front of children. Dancing can be found in most cultures and leads one to think that dancing is a universal activity. It is a great way of expression and exercise to keep the body healthy.
The Holy Bible mentions dancing amongst the ways to worship God. A person can be so joyful in Jesus that the logical way of expression is to dance. King David danced and even came out of his clothes. Social media would have a field day if a national leader did so today. The Scripture states, “And David danced before the Lord with all his might; and David was girded with a linen ephod.”(2 Samuel 6:14) He was dancing in his underwear.
What could make the man or woman God dance? The joy of giving their lives to Jesus and being forgiven of sins are two such reasons. Dance has now become a significant part of church worship. Praising God with dance is encouraged in the Bible. Challenge: Dance to God’s glory and praise!
- Let them praise his name in the dance: let them sing praises unto him with the timbrel and harp. (Psalm 149:3)
- Praise him with the timbrel and dance: praise him with stringed instruments and organs. (Psalm 150:4)
