This Sunday, May 4th, marks the 35th annual Broad Street Run, arguably Philadelphia’s most popular race and the largest 10-mile race in the country. This year's race is expected to draw 40,000 runners from near and far. In fact, the race has grown so popular, that last year they instituted a lottery for registration for the first time ever.
The Broad Street Run has become a tradition for many in the running community, offering a different route than the other races in the city and featuring a mostly flat, even slightly downhill route. After weeks of training and prepping for the race, once you’ve crossed the finish line, it’s time to celebrate your accomplishment with these post-run freebies and parties:
Free Beer at McFadden’s (at CBP)
Free Shake Shack Burgers and PBC Beers
Join Philadelphia Runner, Shake Shack and Fairmount Park Conservancy for a free tailgate at the boathouse in FDR Park (1500 Pattison Ave.) after the Run. Enjoy free Shake Shack burgers, and beer from Philadelphia Brewing Company. Plus they’ll have music and yard games from 10-12. All food and beer is free but runners are encouraged to pick up tickets from Philadelphia Runner or Shake Shack the week of the race in order to guarantee food and drinks!
Free Beer at Morgan’s Pier
Morgan's Pier (221 N. Columbus Blvd.), the popular bar located on the Delaware River and offering scenic views of the Ben Franklin has just opened for the season. They are offering free beers to Broad Street runners on Sunday between 11am-4pm. All you have to do is show them your bib.
Free Starbucks coffee
The Pain Management Center, which has locations in the Navy Yard and in New Jersey, is offering Broad Street Runners free Starbucks gift cards, good for $5 toward your Starbucks drink of choice. Unfortunately, the process of getting one is a little more complicated. Stop by the Pain Management Center's booth at the Broad Street Run Expo at the Convention Center on Friday or Saturday and pick up a Pain Center tech tees (while supplies last). Wear the shirt on race day and tweet a picture of yourself wearing the shirt to Prospira Pain Care (@ProspiraPC). Prospira will use Starbucks’ Tweet-a-Coffee program to send you your free $5 gift card.
