Runners completing a race take time to cool down. Their body has just exerted energy and needs the opportunity to return to normal. Trainers will tell everyone that the body needs the warm-up phase to prepare the body and the cool down phase to rest the body. Both are important in properly exercising or when competing in athletics.
Joseph, a follower of Jesus, took the opportunity and made sure that Jesus’ body had a proper burial place. A tomb made out of rock was chosen, and no one else had used it. This tomb was to be a temporary place for Jesus. The Sabbath day was to begin and Jesus body had a place to rest. This was significant in the preparation for Jesus’ body that was to have life and rise again.
Challenge: Believer, the burial of Jesus even has significance to the Resurrection and serves as the Preparation for the risen Lord.
