On April 19, 2014, artist Peter Karis stated that the "Peter Max Collection Wine Reception" was a success. The event was held on Thursday, April 17 in Hilton Head, S.C.

Award-winning artist Peter Karis held the event at his gallery, Karis Art Gallery. In addition to Karis' own art in the gallery, the collection was of art by another award-winning artist, Peter Max.

Recently Peter Karis, himself, had a new work of art added to his exhibit at Karis Art Gallery. The piece of art added was called "Mystery Love." Karis is an artist who is known for being an expressionist who works in acrylic. Karis paints people, flowers, trees and other objects.

When it comes to Peter Max's background, he emerged as a powerful force in the Art World. Max is known for being a part of the prestigious Art Students League, alongside such artists as Robert Rauschenberg, Jackson Pollack, Cy Twombly and Norman Rockwell.

The League was a formative influence on these artists’ innovative artwork, and has led each and every one to greatness and an important legacy in history. Max’s Art Students League scholarly influence inspired all of his extraordinary artwork, and of late, his new Masters series which includes his interpretive works of Vincent Van Gogh, Monet, Pablo Picasso, Renoir, and Edgar Degas.

All of the above were conceived in Max’s signature style and colors. These works speak to both a maturation of the artists’ illustrious career, as well as to his formidable training at the 130 year old Art Students League of New York.

Most recently Peter Max's works were seen and enjoyed at the Karis Art & Design Gallery. The Gallery is regarded as Hilton Head’s pre-eminent gallery, and it is the island’s premier destination for fine art acquisition. The Gallery always welcomes Peter Max enthusiasts and collectors.

Note, Max has painted Taylor Swift’s portrait. First he painted Swift as a gift to her for her Grammy-winning album "Fearless & Speak Now." He has recently painted new portraits of Taylor Swift to commemorate her worldwide success.

Peter Max was in the news in 2002 when he offered to provide a life of green fields for Cinci Freedom, a cow that escaped from an Ohio slaughterhouse. The cow leapt over a six-foot fence while the slaughterhouse workers were on break and eluded capture for eleven days.

"This little girl's will—facing the end of her life, being so frightened, then taking the risk of all risks to live, to be free—touched me so deeply," Max was quoted as saying, "It was so inspiring. I knew I had to try to preserve that wonderful spirit."

Max donated $180,000 worth of his art to benefit the local Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals, to ensure her a long life of peace at Farm Sanctuary in Watkins Glen, New York.
