The Peoria RiverPlex is offering Spring Break Camp for kids ages five through 12. Space is still available for the Thursday, March 28 and Friday, March 29 sessions. Camps, which run from 7 a.m.-5:30 p.m., will include crafts, games, swimming at the AquaPlex, movies and more. The daily fee is $30 for Peoria Park District members, $32 for Peoria residents and $34 for non-residents. Register in person or online. Children must pack a lunch, but an afternoon snack will be provided. The RiverPlex is located at 600 N.E. Water St., Peoria, Ill. Most Central Illinois schools will be on spring break during the weeks of March 25-29 or April 1-5. Many area organizations are offering special programs during break weeks to keep kids occupied on their time off of school, and homeschoolers will enjoy these activities, too. This list provides details on the day camps, classes and family programs being presented by six area organizations.

Even if your homeschooled students are not on break during the last week of March or the first week of April, consider participating in one of these programs. Kids will have opportunities for fun, education and physical fitness, and they'll also make new friends from their community.

  • The Champaign County Forest Preserve District will hold Reading in the Woods from 10 a.m.-4 p.m. on Friday, March 29. Families are invited to drop in at the Interpretive Center at Homer Lake Nature Preserve for Storywalks on the trails and nature-themed crafts. The Interpretive Center is at 2573 S.   • The Peoria Park District is holding Spring Break Basketball Camp from Monday, April 1 through Friday, April 5. Boys and girls ages eight through 14 are invited to learn basketball skills and life lessons from 9 a.m.-noon each day. The cost is $30 for Peoria residents and $45 for non-residents; the fee includes a t-shirt and a certificate. Register online through the Peoria Park District's online registration service.   • The Peoria Public Library is holding Spring Break Movie from 1:30-3:15 p.m. on Saturday, April 6. People of all ages are invited to a free showing of the movie "Brave." Popcorn will be served.
