Outspoken: Celebrities who support gay marriage

Celebrities are influential. Whether we like it or not, their opinions on politics and social issues have a way of influencing the masses. For some it's because a more notable name voices thoughts that resemble their own, for others, the desire to emulate the behavior of the stars can greatly influence their opinions. Either way, when the stars speak out on major issues, the world listens.

A parody Twitter account for the actor Morgan Freeman once posted a Tweet about homophobia that said, "I hate the word homophobia. It's not a phobia. You are not scared. You are an a**hole." The statement went viral as people re-posted it across every social media platform in existence. Many did not even realize that the words didn't actually come from the actor. As this instance shows, you can't always trust what you read on the internet.

Although the Freeman quote may not have been authentic, it demonstrates the sheer weight an actor or singers opinion bears on any given issue. From Lena Dunham to Jay-Z, countless stars have gone on the record to show their support. In honor of the Supreme Court's reviewing of Proposition 8, we bring a list of celebrities for marriage equality.
