It's that time of year when everyone's trying to pick who's going to win an Oscar.

The 86th Academy Awards will take place this weekend in Hollywood.

Will it be "Gravity" or "12 Years A Slave" as Best Picture? Could Jonah Hill win an Oscar for Best Supporting Actor? Can Cate Blanchett take home Best Actress honors despite the Woody Allen scandal?

"12 Years A Slave" takes the Best Picture Award for its depiction of Solomon Northup's life as a free black man living with his wife and children in New York in 1841, who is tricked by slave traders into traveling to Washington, D.C., where he is kidnapped and sold into slavery. Sent to Louisiana, he experiences the violence and degradation of life as a slave while clinging to the hope that he will someday regain his freedom.

Michael Fassbender takes the Best Supporting ACtor award for his role as Edwin Epps, a brutal Louisiana plantation owner who buys a free man who has been kidnapped and sold into slavery.

Cate Blanchett takes the Best Actress Award for her portrayal of Jasmine, a formerly wealthy woman who moves in with her sister after the break-up of her marriage in Woody Allen's "Blue Jasmine"

Lupita Nyong’o deserves the Best Supporting Actress Award for her role as Patsey, a slave who becomes the object of her brutal master's sexual obsessions in “12 Years a Slave”

Matthew McConaughey takes home the Oscar for Best Actor for his role as Ron Woodroof, a man diagnosed with HIV who finds a way to obtain the drugs that the government and the pharmaceutical companies are refusing to supply in "Dallas Buyer's Club"
