Oh, sure, their 51-80 record is now only tied for last place in the Pacific Coast League with Reno. The Aces were technically eliminated first from the playoffs, too, but that was due to the fact they play in the same division as Salt Lake, one of the best teams in the league, while no one in Nashville’s division is even above .500.
As the Sounds play out the final stretch of the season their players will try to stay focused. The veterans on the squad will wonder if these are their final days in baseball. The young players will cast an eye toward next spring, hoping they can earn a trip to Milwaukee.
Talk of free agency, winter league assignments, and the uncertain future will dominate their clubhouse in the coming days.
In other words, they will be a lot like the Isotopes, who have collapsed in August (4-15) and are now likewise playing out the string.
The two teams will try to close things on a high note beginning tonight at 6:35, with four more games to follow.
