On Aug. 19, 2013, President Obama and his family welcomed a new family member -- a Portugese water dog they named Sunny. White House blogger Hannah August reports that the First Family named their new puppy Sunny "because it fit her cheerful personality." If the pictures posted yesterday on the White House website are any indication, The Obama Family's dog Bo -- also a Portugese water dog -- approves of his energetic little sister.
Born in Michigan in June 2012, Sunny arrived at the White House on Aug. 19, 2013, where she and Bo played on the South Lawn with her stuffed pink flamingo. The video posted on the White House blog shows Bo and Sunny getting acquainted.
In honor of Sunny, the Obamas are making a donation to the Washington Humane Society.
Critics cite the President's 45% job approval rating (valued Aug. 19, 2013, by Rasmussen Reports) as the driving force in the timing of Sunny's debut. But pet lovers need no further rationale than Sunny's smiling face.
