Nintendo announces new games during its ‘Nintendo Direct’ press conference

 “Donkey Kong Country Returns 3D” has been announced for the 3DS this summer in North America and Europe. The game, created by Retro Studios, originally launched for Wii in November of 2010 to a very positive critical reception, and selling nearly 5 million units.A 3D video of Donkey Kong Country Returns is available to download now in the 3DS eShop. The next entry in Nintendo’s “Animal Crossing” series will be arriving on Jun. 9, 2013 for the 3DS in North America. “Animal Crossing: New Leaf” will be very different from the previous entries, with the characters having a more human appearance and allowing players to become the mayor of the main town and giving them free rein to improve the area.The game, referred to as “Animal Crossing: Jump Out” in Japan, was originally expected to be available during the early part of 2013. As part of its “Year of Luigi” event, Nintendo will be releasing the fourth game in the “Mario & Luigi RPG” series, “Mario & Luigi: Dream Team” on the 3DS. The game will arrive on store shelves at some point this summer, but no specific date has been set.“Mario & Luigi: Dream Team” takes place inside Luigi's dreams, and will feature puzzles that have to be solved by interacting with a sleeping Luigi on the bottom screen of the 3DS. Nintendo president Satoru Iwata said that Luigi, who is usually very cowardly, may not be while he’s in his dreams.The previous entries in the “Mario & Luigi RPG” series were “Superstar Saga”, “Partners in Time”, and “Bowser's Inside Story”.View the list »

Also announced for the “Year of Luigi” was a Luigi-themed downloadable content for Wii U launch title New Super Mario Bros. U.The ‘New Super Luigi U’ expansion will release in 2013, and according to Nintendo president Satoru Iwata, the downloadable content is "large-scale," similar to how a full game is developed."We are currently developing a new adventure starring Luigi. This will be large-scale downloadable content which is similar to the development of full software, So it will take some time."No release date or price has been revealed.

Today, during its “Nintendo Direct” press conference, Nintendo had a lot of new announcements to make. Nintendo has been using its “Nintendo Direct” broadcasts to present information regarding Nintendo content or Nintendo franchises to customers, such as information about games and consoles. In North America and Europe, it is presented by the president of Nintendo of America, Reggie Fils-Aime, and the president of Nintendo of Europe, Satoru Shibata.

They announced a deal today designed to encourage gamers into picking up a 3DS XL. Players who pick up the 3DS XL system and one of two games will be able to pick an additional game at no additional charge. The two games to choose from are “Pokémon Mystery Dungeon: Gates to Infinity” or “Luigi's Mansion: Dark Moon”. After registering the games, players can then select a free copy of either “Super Mario 3D Land”, “Professor Layton and the Miracle Mask”, “Art Academy: Lessons for Everyone!”, “Star Fox 64 3D”, or “Freakyforms Deluxe: Your Creations, Alive!”

Mario, Luigi, Donkey Kong, Wario, and Waluigi are all shown in screenshots as playable characters.The game will be developed by Camelot, who have been in charge of the series for a long time, and promises to offer gameplay modes that will both make the series simpler for beginners and add complexity for experts. Nintendo will be releasing the game for 3DS this summer.
