The 2013-14 NHL preseason is quickly approaching. Ranger players are already gearing up for their quest to end the team's Stanley Cup drought. The last time Ranger fans saw the Blueshirts raise Lord Stanley's cup, defenseman Brian Leetch won the Conn Smythe, goalie Mike Richter won the All-Star Game MVP and put together a spectacular run in the nets for the team, Adam Graves had broken the team record for most goals in one regular season, and the Captain was Mark Messier, the man who delivered on his Game 6 guarantee by scoring a hat trick to help beat the Devils on their home ice. 1994 was a milestone year for the franchise. Head coach Mike Keenan and the Rangers defeated the Vancouver Canucks at MSG to give the team their first Stanley Cup in 54 years.
Now, the Rangers are hoping for the same in this upcoming season. But, first, fans will get a taste of the new look New York Rangers, led by their brand new head coach, former Canucks head coach Alain Vigneault. Also, forward Benoit Pouliot and defensemen Aaron Johnson and Justin Falk join many from last year's Ranger team. Could the 2013-14 New York Rangers finally be the offensive juggernaut they need to be in order to compete with the likes of the Boston Bruins, the Stanley Cup champion Chicago Blackhawks, the Pittsburgh Penguins, etc? Or is this, the contract year for a few Rangers (including star goalie Henrik Lundqvist) going to be a year of further change in direction for the franchise?
Unfortunately, due to the ongoing renovations at Madison Square Garden, all six of the Rangers' preseason games this year will take place on the road.
