After missing out on the shoot-out action the night before in New Jersey, New York Islanders fans got to see one Saturday night at the home opener against the Columbus Blue Jackets. This time things didn’t go their way though, as the Isles lost the shoot-out and the game by the score of 3-2.
Matt Moulson, who had the game-winning shoot-out goal against the New Jersey Devils Friday night, had another shoot-out goal Saturday. It was also the only shoot-out goal for the Islanders in each of the games as the other shooters were kept quiet. This included shoot-out specialist Frans Nielsen who was stopped both nights.
Moulson also tallied a goal against Columbus during the second period to put the Islanders up 2-0. But Columbus managed to score twice in the third period to force overtime and the shoot-out.
The Islanders still came away with a point and have a winning record on this young season. The team hosts the Phoenix Coyotes Tuesday night before a trip to Chicago and Nashville. Then it’s four straight at home against Buffalo, Edmonton, Carolina and Vancouver.
