The new temporary art exhibit "Dia de los Muertos" opens at Tohono Chul Park on Friday, September 3, 2013. This exhibit will be on display in the Main Gallery. There will be a free opening reception from 5:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. on September 13, 2013. The exhibit will also have two curator talks (10 a.m. on both September 17 and September 19, 2013). The park will also have a Park After Dark: Celebrating Dia de los Murtos event from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. on November 1, 2013. The exhibit is expected to remain on display through November 10, 2013.
The "Dia de los Muertos" exhibit features works of art created in honor of Day of the Dead, which is celebrated on All Saints' Day (November 1) and All Souls' Day (November 2). The exhibit features a variety of art styles including paintings, sculptures, photographs, and prints. There will also be the Community Altar where visitors can add their own token memento in tribute for loved ones.
About Tohono Chul Park: Tohono Chul Park features gardens and walking trails as well as art galleries. The grounds are open 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. daily while the museum shop and exhibits are open 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. daily. It is closed on New Year's Day, 4th of July, Thanksgiving, and Christmas Day. Admission costs $8 for ages 13-61, $6 for ages 62 and up, $5 for active military, $4 for students with ID, $2 for ages 6 to 12, and free for ages 5 and under and museum members.
