Nemo update: Of note to PWD

Officials advise people to stay home during Winter Storm Nemo.  Read a book, watch TV, Phone/e-mail someone you've been meaning to, watch a movie, or compose a blog.  If power fails, have a person to person conversation, write in a paper notebook, or read by flashlight. During a press conference today, Governor Deval Patrick advised citizens to turn their  refrigerators to maximum to preserve food longer in the event of power outages.  Do this...  It's painless and food poisoning can be fatal! City Hall Plaza in Boston at the beginning of Nemo.  Two feet or above of snow expected in Boston, as well as some parts of Western Massachusetts.  A state of emergency has been declared stating at noon in Massachusetts.  According to The Weather Channel getting around by foot is still doable, but but cars should stay parked. View the list »
he PVTA will suspend service from 6pm Friday, February 8th through 12pm Saturday February 9th. The last bus will leave the Springfield Bus Terminal , Holyoke Transportation Center and the Academy of Music in Northampton at 6pm on Friday. Paratransit closed at 11 a.m.  Driving, except for emergency situations or emergency/medical personnel (including personal care assistants), is banned after 4 p.m.  Amtrak service and flights are also for the most part canceled, so call ahead.

In case you are living under a rock in a place with no windows, you know that Winter Storm Nemo is upon us. Travel by vehicle, even foot or mobility device, is considered dangerous. Massachusetts Governor Deval Patrick has issued a travel ban, starting at 4 p.m., Feb 9. Anyone on the roads is subject to $500 fine and or a year in jail, as just reported by The Weather Channel.

Some places in Massachusetts are expecting two feet in total! In Western Massachusetts, the snow just picked up. Overnight an additional one to 1.5 feet is expected. Tomorrow, the snow will end in the morning, but blizzard conditions will still exist due to wind strength. As The Weather Channel advises, "Hunker down, right now!"
