National Poetry Week honored at the Uptown Arts Bar

April is designated as National Poetry Month and the Uptown Arts Bar celebrates with “Poetry’s a Drag” on Saturday April 19. Displaying their talent will be Ryan Wilks, Nicolle Wilson, Alyssa Bennett-Smith, Steph Castor, and Philip Hooser.

Several sporting events will be held in Kansas City this weekend. Friday through Sunday, the Kansas City Royals will play Minnesota. On Saturday the ABA Basketball All-Star Game will be played at Avila College and Sporting Kansas City takes on Montreal at Sporting Park.

  • Kansas City Repertory Theatre: Copaken Stage, “A Little More Alive,” closes May 11.
  • Metropolitan Ensemble Theatre: 3614 Main, “Steel Magnolias,” closes May 4.

Davey's Uptown Rambler Club

Davey’s Uptown Ramblers Club is located just south of downtown at 3402 Main in Kansas City.  Friday night the club presents Orthon Anderthon, Herald the Spider, and Admiral of the Red at 9 p.m.  Saturday night the club features Summit, Hoot Hoots, Friends and Family, and Black Stacy.

Kelly’s Westport Inn located at 500 Westport Road, in the Westport Entertainment District, will feature on stage the Pat Lentz Band at 10 p.m.  At 10 p.m. on Saturday night, Wonderfuzz takes the main stage.  Kelly’s Westport Inn has an outdoor dining and drinking area located on the rooftop of the business.

The RecordBar is located at 1020 Westport Road in the Westport Entertainment District.   On Friday night at 10 p.m., the club presents Rob Delaney at 10 p.m. Saturday at 7 p.m. the club features Howard Iceberg and the Titantics and at 10 p.m. Conquerors, Blessed Broke, and Dead Voices Trio take the stage.

The Riot Room

The Riot Room is located just north of Westport Road at 4048 Broadway in the Westport Entertainment District. Friday night at 9 p.m. Ben Kweller and Sons of Great Dane take the stage.  On Saturday night at 4 p.m., the club features Thumpr, Mouth, Electric Theory, Found a Job, and Loaded Goat.
