Two major sporting events are in Kansas City this weekend March 21 through March 23. The NAIA Division of the Men’s Basketball National Championship will be held at the Municipal Auditorium through March 25. The Missouri Mavericks host Quad City on Friday March 21 at the Independence Events Center.

Englewood Stations Art District will hold their third Friday Art Walk at Sterling Ave. and Winner Rd. on Friday from 6 to 9 p.m. The art walk includes local artists, food, drink, and entertainment.

Live theater March 21 to March 23:

  • Goppert Theatre: Avila University, “Jesus Christ Superstar,” closes March 22.
  • H&R Block City Stage Theater: Union Station, “Junie B. Jones and a Little Monkey Business,” closes April 12.
  • Just Off Broadway: 3051 Central, “The Frowning Vajayjays of Shady Pines,” closes April 6.
  • Off Center Theatre: Crown Center, “Godspell,” closes March 23.
  • Spencer Theatre: 4949 Cherry, “Vanya & Sonia & Masha & Spike,” closes April 6.
  • Unicorn Theatre: 3828 Main, “Other Desert Cities,” closes March 30.

Aftershock Bar located at 5244 Merriam Dr. in Merriam, Kan. Friday March 21 at 7 p.m. the club features the Years Past and Shyner. Saturday the club features on the main stage Emmure, Volumes, Thy Art is Murder, Gideon, Sworn In, and On the Shoulders of Giants at 6:30 p.m.

Davey’s Uptown Ramblers Club is located just south of downtown at 3402 Main in Kansas City. Friday night the club presents Waterdog Nation, Opium-Chalkline, No Safe Haven, and Promethus Firedog/Plague at 8 p.m. Saturday night at 8 p.m. the club features on the main stage Wolves, Secret Posts, and Abburdum.

Kelly’s Westport Inn located at 500 Westport Road, in the Westport Entertainment District, will feature on stage Lost Wax at 10 p.m. At 10 p.m. on Saturday night, Flannigan’s Right Hook takes the main stage. Kelly’s Westport Inn has an outdoor dining and drinking area located on the rooftop of the business.

The RecordBar is located at 1020 Westport Road in the Westport Entertainment District. On Friday night at 7 p.m., the club presents Potters Field and at 10 p.m. Kirsten Paludan and the Key Party, Barclay Martin, and Caves takes the stage. Saturday at 7 p.m. the club features Sexy Accident and Perfect Pursuit and at 10 p.m. Hearts of Darkness and DJ Ricco take the stage.

The Riot Room is located just north of Westport Road at 4048 Broadway in the Westport Entertainment District. Friday night at 9 p.m. White Girl, Sphinx, and Max Justus take the stage. On Saturday night at 9 p.m. the club features At the Left Hand of God, Soiled Doves, See the Elephant, DJ Neff, and Stryfe on the main stage.

Uptown Arts Bar

The Uptown Arts Bar is located at Valentine and Broadway near the Uptown Theater. The bar is a celebration of the performing arts in the Kansas City area. On Friday at 10 p.m. the club hosts the Recipe Poetry Guild. On Saturday at 7 p.m. the Chiptunes feature live music and at 10 p.m. Sassafras Productions features live burlesques dancing takes the stage.
