Kiwanis Park (Banita Creek Park South)(no restrooms)Where:  7 Acres on South Fredonia, near downtownThis is a great park for young children, it's very small and cozy, perfect for one or two families for a picnic or spending some quiet time together.  There is also a creek nearby to watch.  (Getting in the creek is not really recommended.)This park is right near downtown, so you could spend time visiting stores or museums downtown, and have a picnic at Kiwanis Park.Lakeside ParkAddress: 4800 North Pearl Street (6 acres)(no restrooms, except during events)This park features a pond that is stocked annually with trout and fishing is allowed all year (the usual fishing licenses are required). There are some benches and picnic tables and a small area of playground equipment suitable for the youngest children. There are geese at this park that sometimes can try to be aggressive. They are easily shooed away with a gesture and some stern words, but the youngest children may feel a little nervous around them at first. It is not recommended to try to feed these particular geese. There is also a large stand of bamboo on the far side of the park that older children like to explore, but be sure they wear long pants, good shoes, and have an understanding about how to watch out for snakes.Festival PlazaWhere:  Right near downtown (behind the fire station)(no restrooms, except during events)This is a popular venue for all types of festivals and events throughout the year.  There is also a large grassy field that is great for flying kites. Right across the street is a basketball court with 4 goals, 1 pavilion, picnic tables, restrooms and a parking area.  Kiwanis Park is across the street the other way, and that is a small park with swings and climbing equipment that is appropriate for younger children.View the list »
Eugenia Sterne ParkAddress: 700 East Main Street (1 acre)(no restrooms)This little neighborhood park area is right in the midst of downtown and is a great place to let the little ones run around for a bit in a large grassy area (no playground equipment). There is a small parking area for cars and a few benches to sit on. The nine flags flying in the breeze on tall flag poles and a historical statue with plaque add to the atmosphere. A highlight of this park is the Gazebo, where countless weddings have been held throughout the years. The Gazebo is also a great place for special photos such as to announce your graduation or engagement. In the early evenings, at dusk, you can watch the bats fly out from under the shingles on the gazebo.

4 lighted softball fields and bleachers used by the Nacogdoches Youth Softball Association and the SFA Softball Program. Playground equipment, concession stand area, restrooms, water fountain and parking area.

Soccer Complex

15 soccer fields (1 lighted), pavilion, exercise trail and bleachers. Used by the Nacogdoches Soccer Associations.

SportsPlex
100 Acres (10 developed) on 727 FM 3314 (Old Tyler Rd.)
2 Adult soccer fields, parking area, Model Airplane runway area.

Pioneer Park

A huge park on the south side of town with many beautiful areas to play in, playgrounds available, historic things to see, trails for walking, shelters and tables for picnics, many great resources are at this park. This park is primarily recommended for large groups during the day time, and is not recommended for individuals alone, especially at night.

  • Maroney ParkAddress: 2110 Maroney Drive (17.5 acres)The “community built playground” at Maroney Park is the best choice in town for toddlers or other young children who will tend to wander off because the whole playground area is fenced in. This is a great park with many places to climb and explore for all ages and is a good choice for groups that have mixed ages of children. Near the park are four lighted tennis courts, a jogging-exercise trail, basketball goals, picnic tables and a large parking lot. It is recommended that you visit your restroom facilities at home before arriving at the park, although there is a portable toilet available, for emergencies.
  • Pecan Acres ParkAddress: 826 Starr Avenue (23 acres)(restrooms available but usually unsuitable)Group pavilion, picnic tables, playground equipment, open playfield, disc golf course and parking area. A large part of the park is shaded with mature pecan trees and during pecan season, it is fine to bring your own collection bag and pick up pecans for your family. Pecan Park is most suitable for older children (Pre-K and up) who understand not to wander off, because it is not fenced. Although there is a restroom available for an “emergency”, I’d recommend you use your facilities at home before you visit the park.
  • Banita Creek Park South(restrooms)This small park is right by Festival Plaza, near downtown area.  It has basketball (4 baskets), and picnic tables and a great convenient location.
