I must admit I hate this time of the year. It has nothing to do with our desires to show off love and affection by material goods, or the insane weather patterns of our beloved city. It’s really because I despise lists. These days our society has become lists obsessed to the point where things that usually took no effort to decide have now become conundrums based off meaningless top tens and over exaggerated top 5. To live in a society like this makes me feel that we are further along than I expected in the plight to kill individualism and co think ourselves through the minds of others who inspire. This rash of group thought seems to be very common in my culture as we near the end of another year and all are ready to display their top films in horror. Where it is looked at as a way to spark discussion I personally feel it’s a way to show empowerment. We all have that one friend who watched movies we would never think of and with over 1,600 people a month viewing my page I feel I am that friend to many. My goal is to never persuade you but to educate you that there are films worth your time no matter what you have seen before or a fan of in the genre of horror. Lets be honest, horror dominated in 2013. From the remake of The Evil Dead to a group of guys in cat masks in You're Next the box office flourished with carnage. Finally people are remembering that fear is still the ultimate endorphin and it didn't take Brad Pitt fighting off hordes of zombies to know this.
I don’t claim to be an expert, I don’t claim to be the voice of horror. I’m just a guy from St. Louis who at a time could not even keep my eyes open watching Poltergeist as a kid to then becoming a man that can't keep my eyes off the screen. My only claim is that I have seen around 1,000 horror movies in just this year alone and am honored to bring to you the fans , the backbone, films I feel you should see. So in other words this is my list. Love it or Hate it I don't care. My only goal is the one I had from the moment I started watching films to review them. It’s up to you to go see the movie, it’s up to you to like or hate the movie. I will never agree or disagree with any of the films. My only job is awareness. I’m an advocate for the progression in horror. I support indie and mainstream alike only equipped with the films presented in front of my eyes. Ladies and gentlemen this is not 1988, or 1978, this is 2013 and there were some damn good films making moves across this planet. While I expect 2014 to be even better I am happy to display to you 30 films that I feel maybe worth your time. It’s up to you to see them for yourself.
P.S. For the sake of not being ripped in half by the beloved Twisted Twins or local friends American Mary and I Didn't Come Here To Die were on last years list. Enjoy!
