The Phonebloks modular phone concept presented by Dave Hakkens on Thunderclap is a singular piece of genius ideation. The Phonebloks concept was posted on The Hacker News Thursday, Sept. 12, 2013. The concept's website (Phonebloks.com) is so wildly popular that the claim has been made that it has been blown offline. However, the site is for real and was accessible as of Sept. 12, 2013. Do not try to access Phoneblocks.com as that is the wrong URL.
However, you can access Dave's Phonebloks video on YouTube. However, for once, the comments section levels some serious criticism at the Phonebloks idea. Some of these may be worthwhile, but the concept still remains popular. A little engineering and marketing behind the idea may make it feasible - or not?
Fortunately the media kit was accessible to the Examiner and saved yesterday. There are brief marketing blurbs in English and in Dutch. The idea presents the concept of a phone that appears to be the ultimate customizable phone. Change or update the individual components in a logical fashion to get the optimal performance/s seem possible.
The photos from the media kit should be helpful. The first of these posted in the list is an exploded view of a completed modular Phoneblok phone. Sorry, links to the photos can't be provided at this time.
The second of these is the completed Phoneblok phone.
The third of these shows that the concept Phoneblok should easily fit the hand.
The fourth of these shows the interface and modular side of the Phoneblok phone.
The fifth of these shows a layout of suggested modular Phoneblok components.
Sixth - to change a component merely remove it from the connecting Phoneblok "bus board". Notice the connecting pins.
Seventh - images of the completed Phoneblok phone and the modular components.
Per Dave's video, Tuesday October 29, 2013 is #Phoneblok Day. Please give your support to the singular genius Dave Hakkens and his modular Phoneblok idea.
