Michelle Williams has been an awards show darling in the most recent years being nom'd for her work in Brokeback Mountain (2006), Blue Valentine (2011) and My Week with Marilyn (2012). 2014 Golden Globes are this Sunday - but before we get there let's take a look at Michelle's best red carpet moments.
#10 Flower Power
Michelle Williams at the 2011 Golden Globes wore a taupe colored strappy flower induced dress. It was one of Joan River's Worst of the night. I disagree - it was a quirky gem that showed Michelle's earthy side. It had a sixty's vibe that her pixie cut really brought-out.
Tip for 2014: Flower Prints and/or Flower Prints with a bold, bright blonde pixie-cut.
#10 Flower Power: Close-up
A close-up of Michelle's flowery straps and her natural make-up. Let it be the year of the earthy.
Tip for 2014: Soft, neutral make-up. At night try a softening lip mask.
#9 Black Tie
At the 2011 Baftas in London, Michelle again wore a sixties-esque dress, paired with her signature pixie. This contasty dress worked well with her pale skin tone and the shorter-cut showed of her beautiful gams.
Tip for 2014: If you have legs - show em'.
#8: Feel Royal, Be Royal
In 2006 Michelle was rocking the royal purple before it became the "It" trend in 2010. This layered cake dress, that she wore at the Golden Globes is vintagey and has a girly poof - without being overly sweet or fluffy. She looked and felt good.
Tip: Wear color, and wear a color that you feel good in.
Michelle was all smiles at the 2011 Independent Spirit Awards; known for being edgy, quirky and generally more laid back - the the Indie Awards bring out some of the best pieces of the season. I personally can't wait for this year! This dress has three factors that made it really work for me 1) Texture 2) Color Pop and 3) Cocktail Length.
Tip for 104: Cocktail length dresses will always be in. If you are shorter - wear nothing else. Cocktail dresses are made for you. And, color popping your outfit really makes the difference.
#6 Be Marilyn
Michelle Williams (with Ryan Gosling ) at the 2011 SAG Awards - was a sparkling example that being Marilyn is timeless. Glitz, glam, black and white are four elements in dresses that will never go out of style. My favorite part of her dress is the black velvet bow, it is so girly, yet elegant.
Tip: Wear bows, wear velvet, wear velvet bows.
#5: Little Boy Blue
This was one of the most refreshing looks of Michelle's. At the 2012 Independent Spirit Awards she wore a black and navy blue blazer/short combo with a peter pan collar - and heels! Those heels were simply marvelous. The super blonde pixie added the nicest touch and really gave her an androgynous feel. The best part of the outfit was the color-contrast orange Catcher in the Rye book clutch.
Tip: Blazers with shorts (and heels!) and book clutches.
#4: Some Like it Hot
Michelle really embraced her curvaceous side at the 2012 SAG Awards in this flamenco red dress. The little lacey-ness at the top added a vintage/sexy vibe to the dress and the red-on-red shoe was a great monochromatic moment. Her shoes were vintage-esque as well - that paired well with the lace in the dress.
Tip: Monochromatic outfits.
#4: Some Like it Hot Close-Up
Tip: Monochromatic hair, especially in brighter blonde hues is making it's surge in 2014. If wearing a bright and bold dress - try softer lush make-up, like Michelle did with pink hues.
#3: Frosting is the Best Part
When I was a kid I would always lick the frosting off my cupcakes and then ask for another one, because it was the best part. I didn't want fluffy cake - if I could have cool, sweet, dense frosting. Michelle Williams was the frosting at the 2011 Academy Awards. Her hair was frosty white and her dress was sprinkles simply laying on her skin. Let's all try to be frosting this year...
Tip: Frosty blond hair - the new it color.
#3: Frosting is the Best Part Close-Up
Tip: When having a special occasion or having that once in a lifetime moment - always, always pick the dress that sparkles. And, you can never go wrong with a simple classic-cut dress.
#2: So, Sweet
Michelle Williams dress at the 2012 Academy Awards was such a sweet moment, with the tiered orange-red. The dress was sculpted around her body - making her fantastic.
Tip: If your boobs look good, buy the dress.
#2: So, Sweet Close-up
What made this dress stand-out a bit more compared to others was that Michelle at the Academy Awards looked good from the front and the back. The backless element was sexy, and with the square-cut, the dress didn't slink into raunchy. Also, who knew pink could work with red? And, the little blue bow added the sweetest sprinkle to her look.
Tip: Backless dress = Yes, and every girl needs that perfect pink clutch.
#1: Hello, Yellow
This was a timeless moment, in a timeless dress, in a color that many, many other actresses wished they had the confidence to wear on the red carpet. Mustard Yellow in a 1930's inspired dress that was sheerly on Michelle's skin was a extravagant at the 2006 Academy Awards.
Tip: Wear the color you feel radiant in. And, wear yellow. Yellow is a sunshiny color that people should wear more!
#1: Hello, Yellow Close-up
Tip: Side swept bangs and bold matte lips will make any lady feel like a woman. Red, pink and orange lip-kissing colors will all be making waves in 2014. Remember: matte, not gloss.
#1 Hello, Yellow (one last time)
Just one last look of the ultra-beautiful Michelle.
I know after this I am going shopping for three items: 1) a lip-smacking red lip 2) a 1930's anything and 3) a yellow dress.
