Actress Melissa McCarthy is not only hilarious and witty. She is also a beautiful woman with a big personality that definitely does a great job representing plus size women everywhere. Her movies and comedy keep us cracking up, and her interviews show how pleasant she is at all times. Now this beauty will be adding fashion designer to her impressive resume.
Fashion isn't something Melissa just decided recently to jump into. She was a textile and apparel student in school before becoming an actress, and wanted a career in fashion. The decision to finally get her feet wet and start her own line came two years ago when the actress could not find any fashion designer that would dress her for the Oscars.
On why she decided to start her own clothing line
"Two Oscars ago, I couldn’t find anybody to do a dress for me. I asked five or six designers — very high-level ones who make lots of dresses for people — and they all said no" Melissa McCarthy stated in an interview back in Redbook magazine's July issue. This is when the star decided to take matters into her own hands and begin working the couturier Daniella Pearl for an exciting plus size clothing line.
Melissa's style wasn't always uber femenine
In college Melissa experimented with gothic looks, quite a difference from the soft, feminine styles she wears today. She donned punk/grunge looks and even wore white makeup with a shaved head. Although her style was dark, her personality never was. "I was in a little town and I just got a kick out of it. I was never sullen. I was a terrible punk—I was still so chatty.”
Clothing line prediction: bright and bold
If McCarthy's bubbly and bright personality is telling of her future clothing line, it will definitely be filled with bright colors, playful prints, and flirty dresses that help to give confidence to plus size women. “When I go shopping, most of the time I’m disappointed." We have a feeling the plus size customer will not be disappointed with this line!
