You’ll find answers to those questions and more in the list to follow, where you’ll be introduced to each member of the 2014 U.S. Olympic figure skating team.
The team, which is made up of 15 athletes — seven men and eight women — will head to Sochi in an effort to bring home gold in their respective events. The sport of figure skating is composed of several events, including men’s and women’s individual, pairs skating, and ice dancing. There’s even a new event this year: the team competition, which allows extra skates for those selected.

Shibutani will compete in her first Olympic Games with her brother and ice dancing partner, Alex Shibutani. She lives in Canton, Mich., and attends the University of Michigan. She enjoys cooking, reading and traveling.
hnapir will compete in his first Olympic Games with his pairs partner, Marissa Castelli He lives in Brighton, Mass., and studied at Emerson College. He usually watches Lord of the Rings before he competes.
Edmunds if a first-time Olympian who lives in San Jose, Calif. She attends Archbishop Mitty High School and enjoys reading, cooking and dancing.
Bartholomay is a first-time Olympian competing with partner Felicia Zhang. Bartholomay lives in Ellenton, Fla., and has a black belt in Tae Kwon Do. He enjoys going to the movies.
Davis and her partner, Charlie White, earned the silver medal in the ice dance competition at the 2010 Olympic Games. Davis lives in Canton, Mich., and attends college at the University of Michigan. She enjoys learning foreign languages.
Castelli will be competing in her first Olympic Games with her pairs partner, Simon Shnapir. She lives in Brighton, Mass., and studied at the Community College of Rhode Island. She enjoys yoga and pilates.
Shibutani will compete in his first Olympic Games with his sister and ice dancing partner, Maia Shibutani. He lives in Canton, Mich., and attends the University of Michigan. He enjoys writing, and his favorite book is “The Book of Basketball” by Bill Simmons.
The 2014 Olympic Games will mark the first for Chock, who skates with her ice dance partner Evan Bates. She lives in Culver City, Calif., and likes to eat popcorn. She designs her own costumes.
Abbot first competed at the Olympic Games in 2010, where he finished 9th in the men’s event. He lives in Bloomfield Hills, Mich., and likes to eat hummus. His sister, Gwen, is a competitive downhill skier.
Brown is a first-time Olympian who lives in Monument, Colo., and attended college at the University of Colorado-Colorado Springs. He enjoys playing the piano and working with charitable foundations, including Susan G. Komen for the Cure.
Bates will compete in his second Olympic Games, but the Games will be his first with ice dancing partner Madison Chock. He trains in Ann Arbor, Mich., and goes to school at the University of Michigan. He enjoys gold and basketball, and his favorite books belong to the “Game of Thrones” series
White and his partner, Meryl Davis, earned the silver medal in the ice dancing competition at the 2010 Olympic Games. White lives in Bloomfield Hills, Mich., and attends college at the University of Michigan. He enjoys reading and listening to music. If he didn’t figure skate he would be a hockey player.
Wagner is a first-time Olympian who lives in Aliso Viejo, Calif. She studies at Saddleback Community College. She hopes to become a broadcast journalist after she’s finished skating, and she enjoys playing laser tag.
Zhang and her partner, Nathan Bartholomay, will compete in their first Olympic Games. Zhang lives in Ellenton, Fla., and studied at the University of South Florida. She enjoys swimming.
Gold is a first-time Olympian who lives in Ellyn, Ill. She attends the University of Missouri High School online. Her favorite books include “The Hunger Games” series, and her sister Carly is also a figure skater.
