With the close of 2013, a lot of “Best Books of the Year” lists have been circulating, from Amazon’s top 100 list to the Publishers Weekly list to the 2013 Goodreads Choice Awards. While readers work their way through these top titles, it’s also a perfect time to start anticipating some of the great books to come in 2014. This year surely looks promising, particularly for YA fantasy series: the third installments for three notable YA series are expected in 2014, which seems fitting given the notoriety of threes in writing.
Fans of "The Lunar Chronicles" by Marissa Meyer have not had to wait too long for this next installment in the series (some might argue otherwise, but it’s certainly not a "Doctor Sleep" situation, 36 years after "The Shining"). "Scarlet," the second book of "The Lunar Chronicles" was released in February 2013 and has been featured in many of the top YA book lists for 2013. "Cress," scheduled to release on February 4, continues this futuristic fairy tale series. Haven't started yet? Check out "Cinder," where it all began.
"Dreams of Gods & Monsters"
The second installment of the "Daughter of Smoke and Bone" trilogy was released in November 2012, so readers of this haunting and beautifully written tale of love and enemies are more than ready to read the finale. In the meantime, Laini Taylor has released a stand-alone digital novella – "Night of Cake & Puppets" – featuring the spunky Zuzana and Mik, favorite characters from the trilogy. Hopefully this novella can hold fans over until the final installment comes out April 8. Haven't started yet? Check out "Daughter of Smoke & Bone." You won't be sorry.
"Ruin and Rising"
The second book of the "Grisha Trilogy," "Siege and Storm," was released in June 2013 and has been featured in many lists for the best YA books of the year. The New York Times best-selling series is expected to conclude in June 2014. Haven't started yet? Check out "Shadow and Bone," and discover the nation of Ravka.
