With the Cleveland Indians just two games out of the Wild Card hunt, the name of the game is for the team to simply keep themselves in the race over the next few weeks. The two games isn't the daunting part for the Tribe; rather, having to compete with the Oakland A's, Tampa Bay Rays and Baltimore Orioles (all within 4 games of each other) for those two spots is the biggest worry.
So for the Indians, it's not going to be easy to jump over multiple teams in search of that spot. In that sense, the Wild Card race almost feels more convoluted than a mere divisional race. In the latter scenario, it's you versus them. Make it above them at the end of the season. With this, you've got four, maybe five (if the Yankees keep it up in September) teams battling each other to get to two spots.
Again, the goal should be just to stay in the thick of things. Pick up games when you can and hope for an 11th hour surge to put you over the top. (Then from there, win the Wild Card play-in game.)
