Ruth Ann Loiacano of Isn’t That Sew Handmade has been drawn to create ever since she can remember, starting with an unfortunate crayon mural drawing experience with her naughty cousin as a 3-year-old.
Fast-forward a couple of decades, and we find Ruth pursuing a career in apparel and creating her own geometric metal jewelry after 10 years as a dental professional. She fell in love with making jewelry with her very first class and was quick to catch on as the power tools and hand skills were remarkably similar to those used in dentistry!
"Making things with my hands and working professionally as a designer fills my soul in ways no other industry has been able to. I was just meant to be a maker! Since changing career paths in my late twenties, I’ve never looked back! "
Ruth describes Isn't That Sew Handmade jewelry as "very much inspired by the symmetry of sacred geometry, incorporating simple shapes, fringe, and interesting metal finishes for a very boho inspired look." You'll find an explanation of what certain shapes and symbols mean in the description for various items in the shop, like this Engraved Brass Triangle Necklace, for example.
Aside from the thrill of playing with power tools and torches to make her jewelry, Ruth enjoys sewing and pattern drafting as well as photography, graphic design, and cooking. "All skills that I get to incorporate into my blog and business!" she says. You can read the backstory of Isn't That Sew and learn more about Ruth here.
