"She is clothed with strength and dignity and she laughs without fear of the future," reads the Bible in Proverbs 31:25.
That very same Proverb is also prominently displayed on the event poster for "Pray 4 Sadie." It's a benefit put together for Sadie Layne Smith, an 11-month-old little girl currently undergoing extremely costly treatment which includes chemotherapy at Vanderbilt Children's Hospital for a type of stage 3 cancer.
The benefit will take place Sunday, August 25th in Murfreesboro, not Nashville - but that doesn't mean it's not still sweet. It happens in front of The Beehive Salon on 2805 Old Fort Parkway, about a 45 drive from downtown Nashville. Scheduled from 2-6 pm, the benefit among other events features music from upwards of an approximate eight acts (this according to an on-location early morning weekend interview on Nashville's News 2, WKRN) including Russ Lee (one of the lead vocalists of Dove Award winning, Grammy-nominated group NewSong), Stop Motion Radio, and much-liked locals Penny Rae.
Singer-songwriters Penny Rae, by the way, have several more soon-to-be shows slated for the area including at Murfreesboro's locally owned JoZoara Coffee Shop and a September 10th showing at Nashville's popular music venue 12th & Porter. To find out more about the duo please visit their website. Also, Stop Motion Radio are tuned in to play a free MTSU back-to-school bash called "Live on the Lawn" starting at 7 pm on Monday (August 26th). Go here for more.
Additionally at the benefit there will be a cut-a-thon (after all, it is a salon) with the full cost of several salon services being donated to medical costs and an impressive amount of silent auction items, including many from the Nashville music scene such as Grand Ole Opry tickets and a signed photo, poster and CD collection from none other than of-a-kind Country music star (and local resident + clothing store owner) Gary Allan.
Music items will include:
- Blake Shelton – CD, live concert DVD, tour book and signed poster from NBC's The Voice
- Jake Owen -- signed acoustic guitar
- Grand Ole Opry – two tickets
- Gary Allan – signed CD collection, signed poster & signed photo
- Keith Urban – signed CD
- Eric Church – signed CD
- Lady Antebellum – signed CD
- Vince Gill & Paul Franklin – signed Bakersfield tribute CD
- George Strait – CD, signed lyric sheet AND signed cowboy hat
- Alan Jackson – T-shirt, signed CD & signed photo
- Kacey Musgraves – signed Vinyl LP (CD included)
- Josh Turner – signed CD and signed lyric sheet
- ZZ Top – poster & signed ZZ top tribute CD
If you'd love to see Penny Rae but don't exactly have the pretty penny it takes to donate today, that's OK. Donations or payment for the auction items for Sadie will be accepted at Beehive after the event. For more information or specific event questions please contact Tracy Tucker at (615) 545-8911 or email her at “email@example.com”. The benefit also has a Facebook page.
WGNS radio recently interviewed Tucker about the benefit and posted interview audio here.
And, The Daily News Journal shared Sadie's story through an emotional but hopeful interview with her parents.
