Several faithful readers from New England have alerted me to the fact that lobster prices have plummeted recently. Call it conservation, warmer waters or just a boom in casual lobster sex, I call it down right deliciousioso.
Those $9.99 a pound prices in the supermarket are holding steady, but New Yorker Magazine reports that lobster off the boat is going for about $2.25 a pound. (I read the New Yorker in the dentist’s office once a month whether I have an appointment or not. Subscription prices are up, even though lobster prices are down.)
Even the lobster shacks up and down the coast are hawking famous New England lobster rolls for anywhere from $15.00 to $30.00 with a side of hand cut fries and slaw. Even McDonald’s is getting in the act offering a McLobster roll from time to time. I’m lovin’ it.
But many people outside of New England wouldn’t know an authentic lobster roll if it bit them on the leg.
