I know that there is a struggle for women to find the right skin care and makeup products for themselves, so as a licensed Esthetician, Makeup Artist and Fashion Designer, i would like to inspire you to not give up! There are inexpensive beauty products that we can use for our skin to help showcase our true beauty and natural style.
Step 1 - Skin Type: What is your skin type? Do you know? Most people feel that they have a pretty good idea of what it is. I suggest making an appointment with a professional Esthetician to get an assessment. Most won't offer the assessment without a facial. Sheshae Couture and Skin Specialists offers a Skin Analysis for $25.
Step 2 - Cleanser: A good cleanser is essential to healthy skin. There are misconceptions when it comes to the right cleanser. Some think that if it doesn't burn, it's not working. Not so. The infamous tingle is definitely a nice face tickle, but it is not necessary. As long as it is targeted at your condition and skin type, and removes the oil, dirt and makeup, and doesn't contain harmful chemicals, it should be fine. You'll know if it's the wrong one if your face feels too dry or tight immediately after cleansing and patting dry. Sometimes scrubs can feel too abrasive, or not abrasive enough for oily skin types. People think scrubs are an addition to cleanser, but my philosophy is: "Who has time for 10-steps or even 3?" The Chocolate Peppermint Scrub gives you a clean skin and a burst of energy.
Step 3 - Moisturizer: It is just as important to moisturize your skin as it is to clean it. A good solid moisturizer will soften the skin, not clog pores, and prevent TEWL (Transepidermal Water Loss), which is necessary for skin health and cell reproduction. Wearing it, is not just something we do. It's something we must do. Max Clarity has a great one if you can find it.
Step 4 - Make sure your makeup matches your skin tone and is blended thoroughly. Choose the kind you like, just as long as it doesn't harm your skin, and you clean it off nightly it with a proper makeup remover. When it comes to makeup, you can do it yourself, or have a professional apply it for you when you need it. Your final look should enhance your natural beauty and showcase a smooth flawless texture.
