The 2014 Bonnaroo Music and Arts Festival continued on Friday, June 13, as the two main stages opened in Centeroo. While some were abuzz with the prospect of Kanye West's headline performance, others were content to skip the hoopla and enjoy a late meal in the Food Truck Oasis. Whatever the choice, the days events leading up to Kanye's show were wrought with choices.
Decision-making skills are a prerequisite for 'Roo. Competing early afternoon sets by Sam Smith and Dr. Dog; Janelle Monáe versus The Naked and Famous; then Chvrches against Vampire Weekend leading into Neutral Milk Hotel or Phoenix were options that plagued the day. However, it was the late night alternatives that truly became an issue. Derek Trucks led a Superjam of artists squarely against rapper Ice Cube, progressive metal artist Mastodon and English electronic dance musicians Disclosure.
While Bonnaroo offers a true potpourri of musical talent daily, it's Centeroo--the hub of festival life within the festival--that truly defines the Bonnaroo experience.
Saturday continues with a headline performance by Nashville transplant Jack White. Tedeschi Trucks Band, Drive-by Truckers, Damon Albarn, Lionel Richie, Nick Cave & The Bad Seeds and Frank Ocean are just a handful of the choices for tomorrow.
