Join the Great Central United States ShakeOut for earthquake safety preparedness

Join the Great Central U.S. ShakeOut on Thursday, February 7, to be sure you and your children are prepared for an earthquake. Before you commit to take part in this regional event, ask yourself three questions:

  1. The St. Louis area rests near, and in parts on, a major fault line. Do you know its name?
  2. You’ve studied what earthquakes are in your homeschool science class, but have you ever lived through an earthquake?
  3. Do you know what to do during an earthquake to keep you and your family safe?

Visit. www.ShakeOut.org to pledge to take part in the drill. Then, join in the drill during the 2013 Great Central U.S. ShakeOut earthquake drill scheduled for 10:15 a.m. on Thursday, February 7.

Learn more at www.cusec.org or at the St. Peters City website here.

What is a ShakeOut? It’s sort of like a tornado drill, only the Great Central U.S. Shake Out focuses specifically on what to do during an earthquake. Instead of heading for the basement, when the ground begins to shake, it’s time to:

  • Drop
  • Cover
  • Hold On
