How is it that for a large part of your child’s life, you are the center of their world, then all of a sudden, their fear is that you’re going to embarrass them? They ask you to drop them off down the street from school, don’t come into the house when picking them up, and don’t ever, ever hug them in front of their friends. What happened to change your relationship? Actually nothing happened. You’re still one of the most important persons in their life. However, their perception of what is acceptable behavior may have changed and it’s up to you, as a parent, to set them straight.
