According to Batman followers, there are several reasons why the 41 year old actor is not the best pick to portray their revered superhero.
John Roden, founder of an organization called change.org that petitioned Warner Brothers to remove Ben Affleck from the role of Batman, wrote on their website:
“His acting skill is not even close to being believable as Bruce Wayne and he won't do the role justice. He's not intimidating enough for the role of Batman. Batman is someone that strikes fear in the hearts of men. His portrayal of Daredevil was atrocious and he's not remotely close to an action star or a superhero. Please find someone else and deliver to the fans what they want.”
Roden added that while he believed Affleck is inappropriate for the role, he did not mean to cause harm on Affleck or his career and that Roden respected the actor’s work.
Roden’s petition has already obtained more than 77,000 signatures as indicated on the change.org website.
In several social media sites, disappointed fans cited Affleck’s unsuccessful attempt at playing a superhero in the film “Daredevil” released in 2003. To them, casting Affleck as the next Batman after Bale’s exemplary portrayal of the famed superhero is a disgrace to Batman’s legacy.
According to Forbes, a social media research called Fizziology revealed that 71% of Twitter conversations about Ben Affleck’s role as Batman was negative.
But before “holy smokes” come out of those who think these allegations and stats are unfair to Ben Affleck and those who ferociously think otherwise, let’s review previous Batman actors when they donned the same cape, suit and mask for the very first time – including the modern fans’ seeming top choice Christian Bale – and see if Affleck should be given a chance to unleash his own version of the Dark Knight.
